The other resources

Heading for the finish line is a lot more difficult than I anticipated. I was expecting to get a second wind at some point and finish out with a bang. Instead, I got some horrible virus, tons of extra work work, and a mind that cannot grab a whole of an idea for my other sub pages for this website.

I have considered some different ideas but I think I will settle upon doing resources related to the students prepaid for activities in ATI and Meds Pub. It will require doing a lot of screen shots and the like but I think it will be very beneficial to them. I've been working on a very slow interenet connection which has made creating them much harder but I will press my way towards the finish line with views a an A as my motivator.

Catchin Up

It has been a minute since I posted. I have been weighed down these last few weeks with life and it has become more evident that my path the my Masters will not be as easy as I thought it would be.

Our last assignment, involving Fair Use, was informative. I actually found that a lot of what we do involves Fair Use. As I search for resources for my activities, I am finding that Fair Use comes into play. I have actually decided to make changes in my original plan to accomodate it. The project is coming along slower than I originally anticipated and I fear that my A is slipping from my fingers. I will plug along though and hope that my hard work will be evident in my final product.

The Fair Use delima, I want to find 1 commercial for my students to use as a bases for their assignment. I am searching the internet for something I can use and be in the guidelines of Fair Use. I may be forced to just find a text scenerio instead. In the meantime, I will expect the best and prepare for the worse...

Assignment VIII - IHave I seen this before?

Assignment VIII allowed me to look at the Nursing Process in a different way. The process is very similar to the Big 6 model. Each part of the Nursing Process can be identified in the Big 6 model. It was extremely insightful. Before this assignment, I had never heard of the Big 6. This was something I really learned a lot from. I'm looking at the steps of the nursing process differently now and I want to come up with information tasks that will be helpful and cause the students to engage in higher level thinking. Not just regurgitating the concepts, but actually learning how to think the process through! Very engaging assignment!!!!

Assignment VII

This is was one of the most fun assignments for me. Web design is one of my hobbies. I've never used Google though. I thought it was very intuitive and fun to work with. I would have liked to add the "bells and whistles" to this one but, I think what I produced will suffice. It will be interesting to see how the skills I'm learning in this class will improve my design skills. I know that the information I'm gathering will definately benefit as I am able to search for and chose viable resources and I am getting better at recognizing what is useful and what is not. Now, on to the next assignment!!!

Assignment VI

As we round the corner to head for the finish line, I am more encouraged with how things are coming together. I am daily searching for more resources to help make the final product one that will be of some use to the College of Nursing. Doing these website evaluations will definitely add to the quality of my resources. I am actually going back through my bookmarks to evaluate many of the sites I found and I am finding a lot of them may not be the best quality. Using the checklist made it easier to look at the sites objectively. Before, I looked at each page ascetically instead of really evaluating the content and the source of the content. This assignment will definitely help clean things up a bit in my bookmarks and give me the quality I want.

My Live Chat Presentation

I was present for both days of the presentations. I thought I would get a better feel for the kind of subjects people were researching. There was such a wide range of topics, I don't think I could pick a favorite. I found the topic about the 2-3 zone defense interesting. I feel like the researcher will find a lot of videos to use in his website to enhance it. It was a fun topic and choosing something of interest to him that is fun will definately prove beneficial in the long run. I also found the webpage about the HPV virus of particular interest. When I have time, I'm actually going to go back and look at it in depth for informational purposes. My presentation, I thought went fairly well. Despite the fact that I couldn't make my whole screen show the first time, my information was described well and I'm hoping people will recognize the fact that I tried to organize my topics based on the steps in the process. I am definately feeling a twinge of anxiousness as the class goes on because I can tell our assignments will get more difficult. I hope I will be up for the challenge. All in all, the topics I saw were very interesting and I am looking forward to seeing everyone's final product.

Assignment V

Putting this webpage together was exciting for me. I hope that as the class goes on, I don't lose my enthusiam. My links I chose to display were all pretty much informational. I managed to find a few sites that provided activities for the students to use to study. I think I may need to go in the direction of finding activities; case studies maybe that will allow students the chance to practice implementing the Nursing Process. I hope my final product will be very interactive and engaging for them. I definately need to reread the activity involving siting my references. I didn't get a great grade on it and it has really put a hit on my momentum. I guess that is to be expected. My problem I believe has to do with recognizing journal articles. My references were off because I cited them as references instead of journals. I will definately invest in an APA book in the next few days. I can't let that keep me from my A!

Assignment IV

Wow!!! This assignment is making me take a second look at my original topic. When I was trying to decide on a topic, I had a list of 3 possible things to research. Now I am running into resources that don't give me a lot of information on my topic of choice. I'm getting nervous. My original thought was to use a topic that would be beneficial to the College of Nursing. I took this assignment and used one of my secondary choices about teaching Pre-schoolers to read. This topic gave me a lot of resources and journal articles. I found myself second guessing my original choice. When I used GEM, I found quite a few resources to teach preschoolers to read and GALILEO proved to have some interesting articles as well. I have actually printed out the GEM resources to use with my 4 yr. old. Hopefully, as the class progresses, I will be able to bring it together with my original topic.

Assignment III

This assignment was a little more challenging for me as I have never used many of the resources talked about here. I actually did a lot more work reading the material I found to see if related to my topic. I sifted through hours and hours of information and I think I'm getting information overload. Many of the times I had to step away from the computer and take a break because it was all starting to look a like. I don't want to have a lot of the same things repeated and I'm finding that a lot of what I am getting is repetitive. Well I guess that would be true if I'm searching the same topic!!! LOL I'll turn this discussion in later today.

In our live chat last Sunday, my classmates gave me some good resources to check into. I am anxious to see how their projects unfold because they have both chosen very interesting topics.

Assignment II

Well I started working on Assignment II a little early. As I researched my chosen topic I found that many of the websites relating to the Nursing Process were sites you have to pay for. This is making it slightly challenging.

I have had a lot of experience using Google searches but I've never used some of the Boolean expressions I found in Lesson II. This did make my searching more specific but like I said previously, many of the hits I found were either books or Nursing Journals that had subscription cost associated with them.

My brain is definately being stimulated. This is what I was hoping for!!! On to the Searches!!!

The beginning

This is a test blog. I blog some on Myspace so hopefully this won't be difficult. I am very anxious about beginning. I hope I don't drive everyone crazy!!!
